Austria-based RIEGL, a provider of laser measurement systems, has developed a survey-grade unmanned aerial system (UAS) LiDAR sensor, the VUX-1.

According to RIEGL, the sensor was designed to meet the challenges of emerging surveying solutions by UAS, gyrocopters and ultra-light aircraft, both in measurement performance and system integration.

The company says the VUX-1 weighs less than nine pounds, can be mounted onto professional UAS/RPAS and has a 300-degree field of view. RIEGL adds that internal storage offers the ability to collect data for several hours at altitudes or ranges of up to more than 1,000 feet.
