The Sierra Vista Economic Development Foundation (SVEDF) has acquired a 160-acre parcel of land in Cochise County, Ariz., to use as a testing and training facility for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

According to SVEDF, the facility is named Four Pillars and will cater to small companies that are in the ‘experimental stages of their product.’ In addition to the two runways at Four Pillars, SVEDF is looking to include Benson Municipal Airport as a second location.

SVEDF has chosen technical services provider and consulting firm Thompson-Wimmer Inc. to manage the site. The organization notes that Tucson-based Cyclone ADG LLC wants to test its UAS at Four Pillars.

SVEDF is also hoping to partner with Arizona labs and universities on the test site.
